Accessibility
Last reviewed:
This site is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. It is checked with automated tests (axe-core, running the WCAG 2.2 AA rules) at desktop and phone widths, with color contrast and the size of every tap target measured separately, and with a keyboard-only pass.
What the latest review covered
- On 2026-10-03, six pages were measured in detail at 1440 and 390 pixels wide: the home page, /resume, /now, /brands/madcoolhifi, /rig and /ancestry.
- An automated check of 18 public pages at both widths followed.
- Later that day, the home page, /now, /resume and this page were checked again at both widths, with motion on and with reduced motion, and with a keyboard-only pass with and without the cookie banner open.
- The same automated checks, without the keyboard pass, ran on /brands/madcoolhifi, /listen, /ancestry, /legal/privacy, /madcoolmoney and the not-found page.
Known limitations
- Single-key shortcuts: when no text field has focus, some letter keys act on every page (R opens /resume, for example), and on /resume the number keys jump between roles. These shortcuts cannot be turned off or changed.
- The navigation bar at phone widths: on pages with their own link in the bar, such as /now and /resume, the first Tab can skip the Skip to main content link, and moving through the bar with the keyboard can leave the focused link partly scrolled out of view, under its faded edge.
- Moving content: the constellation behind the home page headline moves continuously. On most computers with a mouse it is a drifting 3D scene, and on other screens its stars twinkle. Other pages have smaller looping animations. None of them has a pause button. On the pages reviewed, setting your device to reduce motion stops all of them.
- Text over the constellation: on the home page, three small lines over the constellation (the line above the headline, the status line and the scroll hint) fall below the 4.5:1 contrast minimum against the constellation behind them. The lowest reading was 2.8:1.
- The timeline on /resume: its bars are smaller than 24 by 24 pixels, because each bar's width shows how long a role lasted. Each bar jumps to that company's entry further down the page. With motion on, the label on the current role's bar drops to about 3.3:1 contrast at the peak of its glow.
- The family memorial on /ancestry: several labels in the migration map and the family constellation are faint or tinted, some as low as 1.4:1 contrast. The stars of the constellation and the people in the family tree are smaller than 24 by 24 pixels.
- The signal lab on /listen: a few small status labels read between 2.8:1 and 3.4:1 contrast.
- The not-found page: when you follow a link to an address that does not exist, the page that says so moves on to the home page by itself in under a second.
- The /madcoolmoney holding page: it is wider than the screen at phone and tablet widths, so it does not fit without scrolling sideways or zooming out. At every width, the "the umbrella · willkline.com" link at the foot of the page is 16 pixels tall.
- Not covered by this review: the member area and the sign-in pages at auth.willkline.com, and panels that only open when you use them, such as the command palette, the chat assistant and the brand launch animations.
